Using positive, science-based training methods, teams will work on calm, confident behavior in a variety of settings while strengthening the handler’s ability to guide and advocate for their dog. Emphasis is placed on safe interactions, clear communication, and maintaining focus amid distractions.

Training topics include:
-
Polite greetings with unfamiliar people
-
Comfortable handling by strangers
-
Calm behavior around medical equipment and mobility aids
-
Controlled walking in busy environments
-
Focus and responsiveness with distractions
-
Appropriate reactions to sudden movements and noises
-

-
Handler awareness, leash handling, and visit etiquette
This class is appropriate for dogs who have already taken my Basic Obedience class, have solid basic manners and enjoy interacting with people. It is ideal for teams interested in visiting hospitals, schools, libraries, nursing homes, and other community settings.

Successful completion of this course helps prepare teams for the TDI evaluation, though certification is awarded by Therapy Dogs International® following a formal test.
