Obedience Classes
Everyone wants an obedient well-behaved dog at home and in public. A proper foundation is how to get there. Get your puppy off to the right start with AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Kindergarten class. If you dog is over 6 months of age Basic Obedience is where you would start. Thinking about competing in AKC trials with your dog? Start with Foundation for Competition class.

S.T.A.R. Puppy Kindergarten
This class is for puppies 3-12 months of age. This class will focus on basic commands such as sit, down, stay, come, leave it and go to place. Behaviors such as waiting at doors, focused attention and confidence building will be covered in addition to addressing common issues such as nipping/biting, potty training, jumping, resource guarding, etc. Husbandry concepts (handling/grooming of your dog in preparation for vets/groomers and care at home) will also be covered. AKC S.T.A.R Puppy testing will be available for those taking this class on the last night of class for those who attend all 6 class sessions.
Basic Obedience
This class is for dogs >1 year of age or those who have completed the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class. This class will focus on commands such as sit, down, stand, stay, leave it, come and go to place. In addition, a main focus of this class will be on heeling/loose leash walking, duration stays, recalls and introduction to working with distractions.


Foundation Skills for Dog Sports
(Fenzi TEAM I and TEAM II Prep)
This course focuses on the beginning foundation work needed for a variety of dog sports including obedience, rally, freestyle, rally free, herding, barn hunt, flyball, nosework, conformation, agility, and field work. This course may include but is not limited to exercises to become proficient in engagement/focus, heeling, recalls, fronts and finishes, distance work, targeting, jumping, scent work, impulse control, rear end awareness, stays and retrieves. Skills will be broken down into manageable exercises and drills that will prepare a dog and handler team to perform with confidence and precision. In addition to preparation for competition sports, completion of this course will prepare you for the Denise Fenzi TEAM I & II tests should you wish to pursue those titles(www.fenziteamtitles.com).

Novice
This class is for dogs just starting in obedience who want to further advance their obedience skills after basic obedience class and/or who may be interested in the possibility of showing in AKC obedience trials. This class will prepare students for AKC Beginner Novice and Novice obedience levels. Exercises taught will include heel on leash, figure 8, heel free, sit and stand for examination, recall, stay while handler walks around the ring, sit stay and down stay (1 minute), and sit go get your leash.


Open
This class is after the Novice level of regular obedience which focuses on more complicated exercises which teach the dog to do a variety of tasks and follow commands on both voice and signal. Exercises taught include: heel free & figure 8, command discrimination (stand, down, sit), drop on recall, retrieve on flat, retrieve over high jump, broad jump, and stand stay - get your leash.
Utility
This class follows the Open level of regular obedience. Exercises taught will include signal exercise, scent discrimination, directed retrieve, moving stand and examination, and directed jumping.
